Notes:Lithograph after (d'apres) Magritte, facsimile signed with Magritte Estate watermark, authorized by ADAGP, France. Printed on pure chiffon, Velin de Rives, 300 gr/square meter. This image was recreated by a master engraver and required over eighteen passes through a flat-bed lithographic press to be completed. Each print is signed in the plate, stamped with the seal of the Magriite Estate and signed by the publisher on the verso. This is part of an editon of 300 and measures 22 3/4 x 30 3/4 inches. La Page Blanche (the Blank Page) was painted in 1967 and part of a private collection of the Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in Brusssels, Belgium. Leaves floating in the night sky, the moon coming out over these leaves, and a realistic frame, that of houses that we can imagine harboring ordinary lives. As always, Magritte brings out the nonsensical by combining familiar images. But this immaculate moon is also the resurgence of the white page, the one that Mallarmé regretted would be erased forever by writing on it.
