This is an exquisitely detailed hot cast Bronze Sculpture rendition of Hermes mercury and Pandora. The remarkable Sculpture of two figures are balanced practically on mercury toes achieved by solid casting mercury foot and toes as part of the base and joining them, as a unit at his thigh. Assorted mythological tales describe the aura of Pandora. Pandora was the image of a perfect, beautiful woman. It is believed that Zeus appointed Hephaestus to create her. She was formed from earth and water and arose from the earth, inanimate and naked a perfect Parthenon. Pandora was then adorned with gifts from all of the gods, clothed in gold, jewels, and elaborate garments. Pandora was sent to earth flown by Hermes Mercury with a box, named Pandora box, and given to Epimethius as a wife. Pandora was sent to punish the human race because Prometheus gave them the gift of fire that was stolen from the gods. Before Pandora there was no evil, no sickness or death and no labor. The world was perfect. Pandora box is the vessel she brought to earth. It contained all of the evils which she released onto humanity, leaving only hope behind. This rendition was cast using the age old technique of lost wax casting and finished with a brown patina stain. It stands communicating the fables and messages of the antiquated gods upon a marble base. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 17 X Width 7 inches. Weight: 12 LBS.
