Remington model 1871 Commercial, .50 caliber smoothbore Rolling Block pistol. Blue and case hardened finish, plain wood stocks, serial #338. With full box of UMC Shot cartridges for this pistol loaded with #8 shot, full open box which is included. The pistol remains in fine to excellent condition showing 80-90% original finish drifting on the edges and near the muzzle. The frame shows 85-95% bright and fiery case hardening. The stocks were never cartouched and show a few dings and mars. The hammer and breech block show straw color, the trigger retains most of its original blue. The bore is near excellent. Refer Remington Rolling Block Pistols, Chapter 17, Page 191, estimate of approx. 150 to 200 being produced and Mr. Clerence Halm, noted Remington Collector found information in the national archives in an order by General Sherman to have Frankford Arsenal bore out some 1871 Army pistols for “Game and pleasure of men”.
