Remington model 1866 deluxe commercial model, .50 caliber single shot pistol, serial #73. Finely Nimschke style engraved with deluxe checkered rosewood grips, and fancy patterned blued barrel. The barrel address showsOctober 1st 1861 patent and is one of 6 known with this address and also shows the Navy anchor stamp near the breech. This is the only known specimen with the barrel blued in an ornate pattern that is accomplished withacid etching. The pistol remains in very good plus condition with 30-50% original blue finish with accenting grey background. The frame shows strong cases of case hardening within a grayish patina. The stocks are verygood plus to near fine and show just a couple of small impressions and nicks. The action is good, markings are sharp, the bore is very good. Provenance J. A.
