Remington (Split Breech) Single Shot Type II Breechloading Carbine, NVSN, .50 RF cal., 20'' barrel, blue finish, with walnut handguard and cartouched walnut stock. U.S. marked buttplate with Rack No. 739 to left side above sling swivel; barrel and frame with additional Belgian proofmarks. This is Remington's first production longarm chambered for metallic cartridges, and one of the last arms supplied to the Union on contract before the end of the Civil War. Many were sold to European countries during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and considered quite scarce. Condition is fine to near excellent retaining approx. 90% thinning and lightly toning blue. Stock with minor scuffs and dings but clear military cartouches to both left side at wrist and just forward the buttplate upper tang. Action is crisp, bore is excellent. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
