Remington Rolling Block no. 1 sporting rifle in .38 centerfire caliber with 31 inch heavy octagon barrel measuring almost 1 inch across the flats of the muzzle. The rifle is serial numbered 2945 on inside tang. The calibermarkings on bottom of barrel read .38 CTG’ E. The metal surfaces are in good condition showing strong traces of blue and case hardening mixed in a brownish patina. There is some scattered light to moderate erosionand pitting mostly on the barrel. The frame shows some traces of silvery case hardening within its brown. The sights are in the original dovetails and the front sight shows a large added copper blade which is of theperiod. The stock shows a light coating of an old revarnish and are good to very good with some dings, mars and scratches. The wood is slightly undersized and the stock was refinished long ago. The markings are good on the tang other than the extra 2 holes from being mounted with tang sight of which the outline is apparent and was removed.
