Remington New Model Single Action Army conversion revolver, .44 cal., 8” octagon barrel, nickel finish, wood grips, #50035. According to an old hand written tag attached to the trigger guard, this was “Parson Bob’s; last scout of the Oregon Trail 1857 – 1871. Address Williams, Nebr.”. On the reverse side of the tag is a typed note: “This was found in the gun barrel of Remington Cartridge Conversion 1858 New Model after I purchased it from a gun dealer in Aspen, CO.”. Additional information is accompanying this lot and includes a write-up on “Parson Bob” indicating he was born in 1846 and spent his life on the Western plains as an Indian Fighter, a scout with Custer at the Little Big Horn where he was wounded, a friend of the likes of Buffalo Bill, Wild Bill Hickok and Diamond Dick Tanner. He additionally was believed to have been the foster father of Calamity Jane. The article further states that “Parson Bob” (Phillip Rover Landon) was a tough but not rough man, did not consume alcohol and preferred to sleep outside his entire life until his death in 1933. The Remington is in overall good condition showing approx. 45% original finish with the balance gone to a silvery patina with scattered areas of erosion and pin prick pitting; the bore is good, the action crisp, the grips are good to very good.
