Remington New Model Police Nickel Finish Revolver
This is a superb condition, special order, low serial number Remington New Model Police Revolver. The revolver features a .36 caliber, five-shot cylinder, 3 ½ inch octagon barrel, with a very desirable FULL NICKEL PLATE finish. The pistol has a serial number of 894 (of 18,000+) and was manufactured in 1865. The top of the barrel is marked, “PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858. MARCH 17. 1863 / REMINGTIB & SONS. ILLION. NEWYORK. U.S.A. / NEW MODEL.” The 3 ½ inch octagon barrel was the shortest barrel length offered and was desirable in that these were often used as hideout guns carried concealed or as belt revolvers in holsters. The piece shows excellent wood grips, a beautiful nickel finish remains with only minor peeling on frame and cylinder, even the brass trigger guard retains most of the nickel. This is an extremely tight action and lockup with flawless mechanical function. Truly a wonderful example that is still in its original percussion ignition system, as many were converted to cartridge and are less desirable. Nickel finished revolvers are very scarce and this is a very early one in high top condition. Antique Firearm requires NO FFL.
