#137001 (under barrel), Cal. 44 percussion, Barrel 8" Octagon, Top of barrel stamped "Patented Sept. 14, 1858-E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, New York, USA – New Model. Brass Trigger Guard replaced (new) originally missing. Sub Inspector Marks on frame, barrel, loading lever and cylinder. Left walnut grip has remnant of a cartouche, right grip missing large piece of wood apparently from impact to Butt. Hammer, trigger and loading lever work. Cylinder is free but does not index, all percussion nipples are present and appear in good condition. One of the major handguns of the Civil War, Made 1863-1873. Collected at an antique/pawn in back of an old time grocery store in Wolf Point, MT, Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. May have had Indian use as "brass trigger guard was missing. Brass was often used by them in various applications such as decoration, arrowheads, etc. Melted or hammered out. Does not require FFL Transfer.
