A spectacular totally original New Model 1863 Army Revolver. Looks to be rarely ,if ever, fired . 99% original bluing with original left side cartouched oiled grips. The grips are in extremely original un- marred shape. The Remington New Model revolvers were produced between 1863-1875, with an estimated production of 122,000. The .44 caliber,6 shot ,8” barrel, percussion revolver was one of the major handguns of the Civil War and was a stiff competitor to Colt’s 1860 Army revolver. It featured low hammer spur and safety notches on the cylinder shoulders between the nipples. These safety notches provided a safe resting position for the hammer nose when the arm is fully loaded, uncocked and not in use. The barrel markings show “PATENTED SEPT.14,1858 E.REMINGTON & SONS, ILION,NEW YORK,U.S.A. NEW MODEL” 109811 New Models were sold to the U.S. Government from 1/5/63 to 3/23/65. The New Model was the last of Remington’s .44 caliber revolvers. The famous showman William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody carried a new New Model Army for buffalo hunting and during the Indian Wars. He once said ”It Never Failed Me”. I doubt you will ever find a Remington 1863 New Model Army Revolver in as new original shape as this fine example
