Remington Model 8 .30 Rem. Caliber Rifle
This is a Remington Arms Co. Model 8 semi-automatic rifle chambered in a .30 Remington caliber. The rifle shows a 22 inch round barrel with sporting sights with walnut hardwood stocks having a white lined Packmayr butt pad. The Remington Model 8 was an interesting design by John Browning. The rifle is long recoil-operated and uses a rotating bolt head. After firing the barrel and bolt, still locked together, move rearward inside the receiver and compress two recoil springs, then the bolt is held back while the barrel is returned forward by one of the springs permitting extraction and ejection. Once the barrel is returned, the bolt is returned forward by the second spring; in so doing it picks up a fresh round from the magazine and chambers it. The Remington Model 8 has a fixed 5-shot magazine and bolt hold-open device which engages after the magazine is empty. The barrel is marked "The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge CO. Inc. Remington Ilion Works, Ilion, N.Y.". The receiver is marked "Remington Model 8". This was truly the first reliable medium power semiautomatic rifle ever commercialized. The metal retains 90% blue finish over spots of pitting with fill in white lettering. Stock shows epoxy added wood along barrel on forestock. Rare firearm. Serial number of 54891, manufactured in 1927. Curio & Relic long gun requires Curio & Relic, FFL Transfer or NICS Background check.
