This Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver was manufactured circa 1893. Remington manufactured only 2,020 Model 1890 Single Action revolvers and surviving examples are scarce and highly desirable. The revolver has the distinctive round barrel that lacks the web beneath the ejector housing found on Model 1875 Remington revolvers. The butt has the lanyard ring that was standard on Model 1890 revolvers. The revolver has a full blue finish with black two-piece checkered hard rubber grips. The Remington "RA" monogram is in a panel at the top of the grip. The serial number "1217" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grips. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.". The caliber designation "44 C.F.W." is stamped in small letters on the left side of the frame. The loading gate is stamped with an assembly number "1257".
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 1217
Condition: Fine as partially refinished (barrel near the replaced front sight). The revolver retains 25% of the original blue finish which is mostly in protected areas. The balance of the revolver has a smooth gray-brown patina. The markings on the barrel and frame are crisp. The grips are modified. There is a small chip in the heel of the left grip and there are three indentations (two above the absent screw escutcheon and one below it) in the right grip. The action functions fine, but will drop the hammer from half-cock when the trigger is pulled. This is a solid example of a scarce and very desirable Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver.
