Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured between 1875 and 1889. The top of the barrel is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A." The serial number,"474" is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip, "74" is marked on the underside of the ejector housing and barrel, and the trigger guard is numbered "221". The butt is spuriously marked "U.S.I.D.". 639 nickel plated Model 1875 revolvers were purchased by the U.S. Interior Department in 1883 for use by Indian Police on Western reservations. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, all nickel finish and fitted with smooth walnut grips. There is a restamped oval on the lower left panel.

Period replated and altered. The barrel has been shortened to its current length and the front sight reset. The revolver retains most of the nickel finish with some areas of smooth gray patina. The hammer and trigger guard screw heads are marred. The grips are good, the left panel has been sanded down and the oval stamp has been restamped. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
