Remington Model 1858 New Model .44 caliber percussion revolver period script inscribed “Capt. James Starr, 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry” on the back strap, serial number 26645. The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina finish withscattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The grips show a faint trace of the outline of a cartouche with some small losses at the edges and even wear. The revolver shows P and W inspections. The action is good. The bore isfair to good with wear to the rifling but still clean. The 6th Pennsylvania cavalry was also known as Rush’s lancers. A large binder of information on this officer and unit is included. Capt. Starr rose in the ranks to brevet Colonel and servedwith distinction at the battle of the Wilderness, Virginia along with many other engagements. This Remington is consigned from a well-known southern California historical arms collector and the inscription is absolutely genuine to the 19thcentury. Est.: $3,000-$6,000
