Remington Keene .45-70 bolt-action magazine repeating rifle. Military “P” proofed on breech with WWK inspection, HN inspections on left breech and frame, and U.S. ID markings legible on left side of receiver, #98. Thesemarkings are faint, but visible under magnification and absolutely real. The metal surfaces show 20-40% thinning and toning blue finish with traces of colors on the action, original sights, good markings, fair borethat may clean to good with some rough areas, that possibly could be just dirt. The rear portion of the buttstock extending 16” forward are an excellent old replacement that is nicely spliced in by a very competent19th century gunsmith. The forend and area around floorplate also show breaks and small losses. The rear swivel is missing. These U.S. Indian department marked Keenes were used by the Indian police along the frontierand were not thrown away when broken. They were repaired and reused again and again. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
