Included in this lot is an E. Remington & Son’s Hepburn No. 3 target rolling block rifle chambered in 40 2 ½. This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The rear sight is an adjustable sporting sight. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." between the rear sight and breech, the lower right side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT. / OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The barrel under the forearm is marked with "40 2 1/2" ahead of the forearm. The firearm has a blue barrel, breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a checkered forearm with an iron forend insert, and multi point checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron carbine style buttplate. The 40 2 ½ caliber designation is a 40-70 Sharp’s straight caliber. Serial Number: 911. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
