Remington 1861 Army "Old Model Army" Single Action Percussion Revolver, #2261, .44 cal., 8" octagon barrel, blue finish, brass trigger guard, smooth walnut two-piece grips, silver cone front sight, and fixed V-notched rear sight. Top of the barrel is marked in two-lines "PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION, N.Y." Matching visible numbers on left side of the grip frame, underside of barrel, and back of the cylinder. Rear round of the cylinder is stamped with inspector mark "J J". There are also two "C J" inspection marks stamped on the left flat of the frame and left rear flat of the barrel assembly. Approx. 6,000 were manufactured circa 1862. The overall condition of this revolver is good, with a mostly even brown patina to the metal, with some old pinprick pitting confined primarily to the hammer, grip straps, and lower front end of the frame. Factory markings and inspectors marks are clear. Grips rate fine, with pleasing grain patterns, and scattered light handling marks. Action is crisp and cycles smoothly. Bore is good, with clear rifling, and moderate erosion scattered throughout. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique) (Michael Strietbeck Collection)
