<B><I>Remember the Carpathia 10¢</B></I></B></I> <B>Cigar Label by F. M. Howell & Co, of Elmira, New York.</B></I> A printed 8.5" x 6.25" inner label picturing the RMS <I>Carpathia</B></I> surrounded by a decorative flowered memorial border with gold trim. Actually the ship pictured is really not the <I>Carpathia</B></I> as it has an American flag and two funnels (the <I>Carpathia</B></I> had only one). Built for the Cunard Line as a transatlantic passenger ship, the <I>Carpathia</B></I> first achieved public attention when, in 1912, it rescued 706 survivors at sea from the sinking of another famous ship, the RMS <I>Titanic.</B></I> On July 17, 1918, it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German submarine. The HMS <I>Snowdrop</B></I> was able to rescue 157 passengers of its passengers and the surviving crew.
