Rembrandt Bugatti Panthere Devorant Ita
Rembrandt Bugatti Panthere Devorant Italy, c. 1906 white stone 28.5 w x 9 d x 14.25 h inches Rembrandt Bugatti masterfully captured the dynamism and energy of his animal subjects. Observing animals at the Paris zoo, Bugatti developed an expressionistic and spontaneous method of working; he created inspired "sketches" in clay or plasticine, always finishing the piece on site. The empathy he felt toward his subjects is illustrated in his depiction of their day-to-day activities, like prowling, lounging, hunting and eating. In Panthere Devorant, Bugatti represents the cat quietly feeding on its prey, a moment that displays BugattiÕs reverence and respect for his subject. Son of renowned furniture designer, Carlo Bugatti, and brother of infamous car manufacturer, Ettore Bugatti, Rembrandt Bugatti was surrounded by artists and designers throughout his youth. The young Rembrandt was not educated in art, rather he spent time studying the animals at the zoo. Depicting a range of animals, BugattiÕs felines and elephants are the most desired forms from his body of work. His tender rendering of these frequently glorified and symbolic animals exemplifies his talent and skill as an artist.
