Gr. in-8° : [4]-188-[4] pp., 24 pll. num. h.-t. Relié par Claessens fils : bradel demi-toile grise, plats et gardes de papier orné d'un motif répété créé par Van de Velde, tr. de tête polie, couv. cons. (petites insolation au second plat). Edition originale fort rare. Les planches hors-texte, complètes, figurent, outre les traditionnelles reproductions de reliures, les portraits photogr. de Léon Gruel, Trauz-Bauzonnet, Jean Engel, Charles Magnier. La partie consacrée aux Belges dans l'article sur "La reliure à l'exposition de 1889" a été annotée par Dubois d'Enghien. Bulletin de souscription sur f. volant.Le bruxellois Bosquet (1834-1912) fut un des grands relieurs belges avec, à la même époque, L. Claessens et J. Schavye. Après avoir exercé son métier pendant une petite 20aine d'années, et servi e.a. le comte de Flandre, frère de Léopold II, il reprit la nationalité française de son père en 1893, dirigea les ateliers de Engel puis Hachette jusqu'en 1910 tout en se consacrant à l'étude de son art (cfr Dubois d'Enghien, Rel. en Belg., p. 114-115).Le papier de garde de notre exemplaire a été dessiné par Henry van de Velde. Il est en tous points semblable à celui qui ornait l'exemplaire de "Un chant dans l'ombre" offert par le poète Van Lerberghe à son ami Sévérin, ex. vendu par nos soins en mars 1997. Paul Claessens fils (1861-1909) fut le façonnier de van de Velde pour ses créations en reliure.Provenance : Dubois d'Enghien (cachet). 300 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 3.000 BEF will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 7.000 BEF or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Belgian francs (BEF).
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 50.000 BEF.
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
