DLO Cover, Air Mail, 1955, dispatched from France to Delhi, Paris PAR AVION Blue label affixed along with two more labels, first one being a rectangular yellow label “PREMIER SERVICE DIRECT AIR FRANCE PARIS – NEW DELHI, A.P.F.C.” and second being a Registered label “R 367” with PARIS XVIII AN.1 overprinted on the label.

Dispatched from Paris on “14-11-1955”, the cover reached Delhi, and the postmark of “Delhi on 17 | 11 | 55” was applied. Many interesting seals on the cover were applied like “PARIS AVIATION ETRANGER” with the date and “RETOUR” (return) in front of the cover.

Multiple D.L.O. seals from Amritsar and Bombay are seen. Four seals of “D.L.O. Amritsar” with two different dates viz. 30-11-55 & 3-12-55”, both in Devanagari script are visible, this denotes that there were multiple attempts made to deliver this post. Later it was sent to Bombay and the dead letter office of Bombay’s seal “D.L.O. BOMBAY 6  DEC 55” was applied, which indicates that the attempt to deliver this letter was made in Bombay as well. A seal that reads “NON-RECLAME | NOT CLAIMED” in Black rectangular is seen on the back of the cover. On not founding the recipient, it was returned to the sender with hand-written instructions in Blue ink “Not Claimed” and “Retd to Sender” in black ink. Finally, it was returned to Paris and the seal with the date 31-12-55 was applied, intact quality, in excellent condition, Extremely Rare.

Note: This cover is of special interest with DLO seals from two different cities along with other significant seals and cancellations. It is worthy of inclusion in a grand prix collection of the relevant categories
