This is an example of a custom made copy of a folding stock K98 rifle that was produced on a pre-war Mauser K98 rifle. This rifle is a faithful copy of that original "folding stock" prototype design that would be an excellent example to fill the void in a large Mauser rifle or WWII German military collection. This example closely follows the line drawings of original rifles shown in several of the K98 Mauser rifle books. The actual folding stock mechanism looks and functions exactly like the original version. The top of the receiver is marked "42" the wartime code for the Mauser factory over 1938 for the year of manufacture. The left and right sides of the receiver have the firing and Waffenamt proofs and the rear of the barrel is stamped with "39R39". It has the correct milled components, trigger guard, floor plate, and barrel bands. The walnut stock is the correct early pattern for a 1938 dated rifle and it has the correct flat buttplate. The right side of the buttstock has been nicely proofed with an Eagle/L Luftwaffe proof and double WaA63 Waffenamt below the stock takedown disc. The rifle is complete with a cleaning rod.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 9962
Condition: Refurbished/assembled with most of a reblued type finish overall, with only edge and high spot wear. The various parts appear to have originally been of Mauser manufacture, with most of them having been faithfully renumbered to match the serial number on the receiver. The stock and handguards are both in excellent condition with a nice medium brown color overall. The various stock proofs, have also been restamped to duplicate the originals. A great cost effective way to fill that spot in your collection.
