Author and journalist (1831–1910) known as a pioneer of literary realism in American literature. She sought to effect social change through her work by writing about the plight of marginalized groups like African Americans, Native Americans, women, immigrants, and the working class. ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, January 26. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "Did you receive an article from me about three weeks ago—The Work of Lord Kitchener? I think was the title. As it was addressed to Dr. Ward I thought probably it had not been opened on his absence." In fine condition.
