Detective novelist (1888–1959) best known for The Big Sleep and The Long Goodbye. His seven novels center around tough but honest private investigator Philip Marlowe. DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, July 6, 1951. An option agreement between CBS and Chandler clarifying a point “relating to the licensing of the ‘Philip Marlowe’ title, name, and character.” Boldly signed at the conclusion by Chandler. In fine condition, with paperclip impression to top edge, and a few minor creases. Chandler was notoriously unhappy with CBS’s efforts to create a series around his Marlowe character.
