Rawhide,NV - Mineral County - September 9, 1908 - Burnt Town Rebuilds (B) Photograph :
“Rebuilding Rawhide,” reports the photographer. Photograph measures 8”x6”, no matte, high to medium contrast—suffers from minor yellowing/fading in the background, and focus is sharp. The upper portion of the photo has numerous marks caused from rubbing. Also, the lower right hand corner has been damaged by a small nick (1/8”) and a minor crease (1/4”). Photographer probably N.E. Johnson, but not identified. Five days after the disastrous fire at Rawhide, the town is already being rebuilt. A stick frame wall has been erected on the left of the photo. Numerous other buildings are undergoing construction and piles of lumber can be seen throughout the photograph. This image is a nice example of the speed at which these towns are built. One the reverse (Ole?) Bowman of Rawhide writes, “This shows work done two days after burnt district was opened for cleaning up and building. You can see myself in the foreground. I was waiting to meet ..ruminng and have a talk with him about the Hall.” Bowman dates the photo Sept. 9, 1908.
