Regent district. Incorporated in Nevada in 1908. Cert. #386, issued to Kittie McGregor in 1908 for 100 shares. Signed by W.K. Miller as vice president and Chas. F. Busey as secretary. Uncancelled. Vignette of Bald Eagle, flanked by flower blossoms around masthead. Vignettes of a stag in each of the 4 corners of the border. Black border with tan safety print and gilt seal. Nat Goodwin was the financial backer and George Graham Rice, who Goodwin had known as “a young man whom I had known slightly in Goldfield as one of the boldest operators in that roaring camp,” was his partner(Nat Goodwin’s Book, 1914). The company had secured a valuable property in Rawhide and sold most of the stock to Rawhide residents, “who were loudest in their boasts that we would soon prove that our property was the peer of the great Goldfield Consolidated”. Goodwin and partners were so optimistic that they went to New York and listed the company on the New York Curb exchange. “The gentlemen who call themselves brokers on the Curb banded together and conspired to work our ruin. In the end they succeeded.” Before the east coasters drove the company down, Goodwin’s group had acquired the controlling interest in the Rawhide Coalition, another Rawhide property outright, a property in Bovard, Fairview, Goldfield and the Ely Central. The New York bear raids emphasized that one of the partner’s had a past and that the mines and prospects were fake. Goodwin believed that his company was on the level and had his attorney examine the books. His attorney assured him that everything was on the level. But the “market looters” in Goodwin’s words showed no mercy. Goodwin decided to get out while the getting was good... “I knew the sword of Damocles was hanging by the slenderest of threads”- and resigned. Eighteen months later the offices were the scene of a sure-enough, wild-western raid. All the staff was arrested and indicted. Goodwin was convinced that the only crime that his partner was guilty of was telling the truth and trying to protect his customers. Goodwin had previously been a noted actor on the east coast and had fallen into mining accidently after visiting Goldfield for the Gans- Nelson fight in 1906. Measures 10 ¼” x 8”. VF.
