Ras Daniel Heartman Self Portrait w/Son, plus Photographs. Ras Daniel Heartman, formerly Lloyd George Roberts, was born January 18, 1942 in Kingston, Jamaica. Heartman became not only an international symbol of Rastafari, but also an important part of the canon of Caribbean art. In 1980 he was awarded The centenary medal (1879-1979) by The Council of the Institute of Jamaica, headed by the then chairman John Hearne, in recognition of his "sustained and outstanding contribution to cultural development in Jamaica in the field of Art". He was greatly appreciated for his incredible artwork in the Rock and Roll and Rastafarian Music communities with many famous musicians proudly wearing his artwork on t-shirts, including Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Heartman designed the Catch A Fire album cover- The Wailers 1973 (original unreleased version). This self portrait perfectly illustrates the skill of this incredible artist who died too soon (age 42). The bottom left reads "Self portrait with son" Signed by Ras Daniel Heartman "Church Triumphant". Also included with lot are two photographs, unknown photographer. c 1970s.
