<td width="100%">
This rare Empire period Cabinet cup and saucer was made in Paris circa 1810 by a very rare Porcelain factory Gaugain. This is a very rare factory. Although the factory is talked about in Madame de Guillebon book on Porcelains of Paris the book dos not show a photo of porcelain from this factory.The factory was located on rue de Grenelle, Saint Germain and was only in business from 1810-1823. The cup is beautifully painted in a lively magenta ground color with bright engraved gold gilt.The handle is in the form of a lady's head at the top.The gold gilt panels around the cup and saucer have hand engraved scenes of neoclassical urns, fountains, villages, and bugs. The cup & saucer also have beads on them. The cup is signed on the bottom of the saucer in bold gold gilt Gaugain a Paris. Cups like this were giving as gifts by French Emperor Napoleon. They were called Cabinet cups because they were never meant to be used and were displayed in cabinets.Height of cup 3" 1/2 inches the saucer is 6" 1/2.wide
