Rare original Colt first model Navy revolver with wedge-over-screw variation, .36 caliber variation, grey patina finish, varnish wood grips, serial number “484”. The revolver remains in original good to very good condition showing scattered light to moderate surface pitting with some areas of slightly heavier pitting in a few small areas. The cylinder shows 20-30% original scene going light. There is traces of original case hardening going silver on frame and lever. The backstrap and triggerguard show 20-30% heavy original silver plate, mostly drifting on backstrap. The varnish wood grips are good showing even wear and oiling. Small repair and slight refinishing with linseed oil. The top of the backstrap is scratched with a reversed initial “V” in the silver plate, which is very light and without a doubt the original owner’s identification mark. The barrel address and Colt’s patent markings are sharp. The Colt’s patent marking on cylinder is mostly visible. All matching serial numbers except loading lever (number “284”). Action is crisp, interior exceptionally good. Experts estimate between 600 and 800 of this early Navy were produced as the serial numbers were concurrent with early second models. This was the best wedge-over-screw variation DuPont could obtain with over 50 years of searching. With inventory sheet, obtained by noted firearms dealer David Comdon, 1991. Est: $7,000 - $14,000
