Designed and made by Edward Lindner of Manchester, New Hampshire, probably at Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. Only 892 of the First Type carbines were made and all were for military contracts, (November, 1861, 391 to the 1st Michigan Cavalry in late 1863, 501 to the 8th West Virginia Mounted Infantry). The carbine has a fixed blade front sight and two-leaf folding rear sight mounted behind the breechblock next to the hammer. It is correctly marked, only on the top of the breechblock "EDWARD LINDNER'S/PATENT/MARCH 29, 1859". There is a small "J" on the right side of the breechblock and breech end of the barrel. There is a "AAB" in an oval stamped on the stock comb just ahead of the buttplate, also there are inspectors initials "GK?" stamped on the left side (flat), ahead of the wrist (below the saddle ring). The stock is oil-finished walnut, with a metal forearm tip, steel carbine buttplate and saddle ring on the left stock flat.
BBL: 20 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 58 cal
Finish: bright
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Excellent. The crisp original metal surfaces retain nearly all of the original armory bright polish overall (some grease is still present in the protected areas). The stock is very fine with some scattered minor storage dings. The markings on the breech block are sharp. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptionally nice Lindner Carbine and is one of the finest examples we have ever offered.
