Rare and Exceptional DWM Model 1908 Commercial/Military Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent example of a Model 1908 Commercial Army Luger pistol manufactured during late 1913 or early 1914. It is estimated that only about 450 of these Lugers were manufactured in the serial number range of 69,163 to 70,840. Page 25 of "Imperial Lugers and Their Accessories" by Jan C. Still identifies 14 such Lugers by serial number (this pistol not included). These pistols were made without stock lugs, had 5 digit serial numbers with commercial placement, blank chamber, "DWM" toggle monogram and high quality rust blue finish. Almost all had the hold-open installed, which is not the case with this pistol. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with three "crown/X" Army inspection marks followed by the Heraldic Eagle Army test proof, the latter being repeated on the top breech end of the barrel and left side of the toggle. These markings are characteristic of the Model 1908 Lugers that were routed to military service and are almost exclusively found on the 1908 Commercial Army and a few 1914 dated Army Lugers. The toggle is marked with the "DWM" monogram and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel and front of the frame. The breech end bottom of the barrel is also marked with the bore diameter "8,83". Blade front and fixed rear sights, blue finish with straw colored small parts, mis-matched period plated magazine with wooden base and fitted with checkered walnut grips.

Manufucture: DWM
Model: 1908 Commercial
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% plus original rust blue finish with some muzzle and high point wear. The small parts retain 85% plus original straw color. The grips are also excellent with some minor wear on the lower edges, a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically functions fine. This is a rare variation of Luger pistols!
