Rare and Desirable pinfire “Baby” LeMat two barrel pistol consisting of a 9-shot 8mm cal. Revolver and a .410 gauge smoothbore lower barrel with the revolver octagon upper barrel measuring 4-1/4” and the lower round barrel measuring 2-1/2”, blue finish, checkered wood grips, #36. This gun is in overall good condition showing traces of original blue in protected areas; barrel marked “sys LeMat” on the left side barrel flat, “J.F. Bouery Canal & C ie a Paris” on the top flat and “Bte S.G.D.G.” on the right barrel flat. The balance of the metal surfaces has gone to an even light grey patina with scattered light pin prick pitting; crisp action including the hammer selector lever, barrel, trigger and frame matching serial #s, ramrod numbered “62” but matching in condition with the rest of the gun. The bores should clean to good, the grips are good overall. The LeMat was a favorite of Confederate Officers during the Civil War. The large frame LeMat was produced in Paris, France and Birmingham, England with less than 3,000 manufactured. The “Baby” LeMat’s production has been estimated at only 100 manufactured. Very seldomly offered for sale with less than a dozen known to collectors. Est.: $20,000-$40,000.
