Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: 1903
This is an excellent example of an early Springfield International match target rifle commonly called a Model "A" target rifle. These rifles were actually based on the Style "T" rifle fitted with a special target stock that included an adjustable Swiss-Hammerli style buttplate. These were some of the last of the International Match target rifles produced before Springfield settled on the standard Style "T" rifle and the standard 1903 National Match service rifle. These rifles were equipped with a 30 inch target weight barrel, usually manufactured by Springfield Armory. This example is unmarked, however many other manufactures such as Winchester, Remington and Neidner and Hoffman also made new and replacement barrels for these rifles. The rifle is equipped with a higher front sight base that is fitted with a Lyman Globe front sight. The receiver is fitted with a late pattern Lyman 48C receiver sight, that is adjustable for windage and elevation. The rifle is fitted with a bright polished bolt marked "WL3" and has the matching serial number etched on top. The target style walnut stock has the two recoil bolts, with no finger grooves and is held on by a single barrel band. It is fitted with sling swivels and as noted a Swiss style adjustable buttplate. The buttplate does not match the base and the stock has the correct circle P cartouche in the pistol grip. The top of the barrel and receiver are both fitted with unmarked target scope mounting blocks. The rifle is listed as a "28 inch INTL. match style T used" sold in "33" (1933). It now has a 30 inch barrel.
BBL: 30 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30-06
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 1281688
Condition:
Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with several minor of light surface rust/spots present on top of the barrel and around the barrel band. The stock is also very fine with a nice dark brown color overall with minor handling marks. This is a correct style buttplate however the base and adjustable hook do not have matching assembly numbers. A very nice example of a scarce International Match rifle.
