Rare World War I Imperial German DWM Model 1914 "Reichs-Gendarmerie" Marked Commercial Luger Rig with Two Matching Magazines and "R G" Marked Leather Holster and Accessories

This is an excellent example of a very early DWM Model 1914 unit marked commercial Luger that has the desirable "R G 165" marked frame. These RG marked Lugers were a private purchase weapon with the engraved markings usually done outside the factory. In this case the "R G" marking stands for the "Reichs-Gendarmerie", a militarized police unit that was stationed in the Alsace-Lorraine sector of Belgium. These markings are very similar to the military model shown on page 57-58 of Jan Stills book on Imperial Lugers. These 1914 Commercial models are easily identified by the serial number range, lack of chamber date and commercial proof marks. It has the standard "crown/N" commercial proofs on the left side of the barrel extension, breech block and underside of the barrel and is correctly numbered in the commercial style, with the five digit serial number (74202) stamped on the frame and underside of the barrel and the last two digits (02) on the various small parts. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips and comes with two matching nickel plated magazines with wooden bases each marked "74202". Complete with a correct "R G 16" marked brown leather commercial style holster marked "JULIUS JANSEN/STRASSBURG/1916" inside the flap. There is a separate slot for a takedown-pin next to the takedown tool and a separate slot for a cleaning rod next to the spare magazine pouch (all items included).

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% of the original blue finish showing edge and high spot wear overall. The various small parts retain 70% original straw colors. The grips are very fine showing minor handling marks with traces of old varnish/tru-oil in the grooves and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The holster is fine with nice dark brown color overall mixed with some light age cracking on the flap, tight stitching and clear markings. A very nice scarce DWM Model 1914 Commercial Luger rig with desirable "R.G." unit markings.
