This prototype Model 70 Bolt Action rifle has a ramp beaded blade front sight (no provisions for a hood), an adjustable folding leaf rear sight, a detachable box magazine, and sling swivels. The safety is positioned on the straight type receiver tang. According to the consignor, this rifle once belonged to T.K Hutchinson, a known collector or experimental Winchesters. Hutchinson received the rifle from former President of Olin Industries John Olin, a personal friend of Hutchinson. This rifle may be the only such specimen in existence. The top of the receiver is tapped for scope mounting and the serial number "EXP. 3" is marked on the right side of the receiver ring. The right side of the barrel has the caliber marking (".243") at the breech. The top of the receiver and barrel have a Winchester factory proof. There are no other markings. Smooth and varnished high comb pistol grip with an oversized serrated hard rubber buttplate.
