Rare Warner-Swasey pre-WW I scope with leather military carry case and strap; scope is in overall good to very good condition showing approx. 65% of its original black finish on scope with marking “Telescopic Musket Sight Model of 1908 No. 1305 The Warner & Swasey Co. Cleveland Ohio U.S.A. Pat Feb 3-06. May 22-06. Dec 5-08.”; brass drift and windage correction tables are still attached to top of the scope as is the brass range reference on the backside of the scope’s body above the eyepiece; the optics are still very good with some scattered black particles in viewfinder; scope mount and calibrated dials are still attached and the mount is marked “For Rifle No. 409495”. The mount retains most of its original finish. The black rubber eyepiece has hardened and separated from its base and is malformed but present. The leather carry case is in overall good condition with “C.H.” inspector’s initials on back of case but no visible date; the flap cover securing strap to the buckle is missing most of its tongue; the carry strap is dry but complete at time of description. Warner-Swasey scopes generally are not found available at auction; this one is being sold only because of the passing of our friend who spent years searching for U.S. Springfield Model 1903 #409495. If by chance, you have this rifle, we will say no more; if not, the scope is like the proverbial “hen’s tooth” anyway and a great find! From an old estate. Est.: $750-$1,500.
