Produced in 1938, with the scarce chrome finish, and bearing the highly desirable inscription "EHRENPREIS 1938/ N.S.D.A.P. Traditionsgau Gauamt Fur Beamte" on the left side of the slide. "EHRENPREIS" basically means honorary prize in English. "Traditionsgau" was a name attributed to the Gau Munich-Upper Bavaria, due to its status as "birthplace of the movement", and "Gauamt fur Beamte" is the Gau (region) Office for Civil Servants. To sum it all up, "This pistol was awarded in 1938 as a prize by the Nazi party to a civil servant in a particular region. "Equipped with a 90 degree safety, serrated ring hammer, checkered wraparound grips, and a matching finished magazine. This pistol is pictured and described on pages 76-77 of James Rankin's book "Walther Volume II", as well as in the German language editions of his works.
