Rare WWII WT Springfield Bayonet Fighting Knife
Rare WWII WT Springfield Bayonet Fighting Knife. Over 6 million M1905 bayonets were produced but Wilde Drop Forge & Tool (WT) made only 60,000 bayonets in 1942 and early 1943 before their government contract ended, making them the rarest manufacturer of US bayonets in WWII. Production of bayonets would begin in mid 1942 and would be completed in March/April 1943, making for less than a year of production. In WWII, many of the 16inch M1905 bayonets were cut down to shorter bayonets. This bayonet was reworked into a fighting knife instead of a shorter bayonet and has a shorter crossguard without a muzzle ring as a result. This bayonet has the rare manufacturer’s mark WT (Wilde Drop Forge & Tool) stamped on the crossguard. Blade has a deep blued finish and no damage to the blade. Black plastic grips are in very good condition with no cracks or chips. Scabbard missing. Must see photos. Very good condition and an amazing example of a fighting knife from the rarest US bayonet manufacturer of WWII.
