Rare WWII K98 Mauser Double Claw SS Sniper Rifle
This is an exceptional example of a very rare late WWII K98 Mauser "SS" double claw sniper rifle. These rifles were produced from late 1943 to late 1944 using both Mauser and Steyr produced rifles and all were fitted with the double claw bases on the receiver with the desirable Czech "dow" center adjustment/focus scope. The top of the receiver ring is marked "bnz". The left rear of the barrel is marked with correct Eagle firing proof. The left side of the receiver ring also has the original eagle firing proof along with a "eagle / SSZZA2" proof mark, followed by the serial number and the receiver side wall is marked "Mod. 98". The rifle itself has the milled trigger guard, floor plate and milled unnumbered barrel bands. The bolt assembly is a wartime subcontract bolt made by FN, which carries the WaA140 proof that has been light etched with the serial number on top of the bolt handle as well as the bolt assembly and safety. The scope as noted is a late war center focus model that is correct for this style of sniper rifle as produced by the Czechoslovakian firm of Opticotechna. It carries the correct factory wartime code of "dow" followed by a blue cross and it is fitted with a set of original double claw rings with the two locking levers on each side of the rear ring. The left side of the scope tube is marked with serial number "6826". It has the standard post reticule. The rifle has the standard laminated stock and hand guard and it is fitted with a smooth cupped butt plate and is stamped with a large Nazi firing proof on the right side of the buttstock. Complete with a cleaning rod under the barrel and an original cross-hatched leather sling.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 6826
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish with some thinning on the floor plate, trigger guard and forward barrel band. The stock is excellent with some minor scuffing and dark areas on the toe with a couple of age cracks in the butt that have an old repair, and overall a few minor dings and dents. The scope is excellent with some normal thinning and high edge wear. The otherwise ok optics are a little hazy, the elevation knob works correctly and the reticule is intact. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. A very nice example of an extremely rare SS double claw sniper rifle.
