S/N 1069773, Manufactured in 1943. Union Switch & Signal ( US&S Co. ) manufactured M1911A1 pistols with serial numbers ranging from 1041405 - 1096404, A total of 55,000 pistols were produced by US&S during World War II. These pistols are the second rarest of the M1911A1s produced, next to the Singer Sewing Machine Co. 5" barrel, bore is frosted but with good rifling. Right side of frame is marked "United States Property, U.S. Army". R.C.D. inspection mark on left side of frame. Slide has USS logo and S & S. Co., Swissvale PA, USA. Gun retains approximately 50% of metal finish. There are areas of erosion on frame and slide. Magazine is marked "C R" for Colt - Risdon. Grips are correct type although may be replacements. Modern.
