Printed "Van Horn District, N. T." in left border. EXTREMELY RARE Nevada Territory location. #89 to Silas Fuller for 10 shares on May 4, 1863 and issued in San Francisco. Signed by Geo. Clarke president and C. Curtis secretary. Rather distinctive above ground mine vignette with mine entrance, wagon and mill. VERY NICE Loomis lithograph. 25c Warehouse Recp't. revenue stamp. Three vertical folds. Extremely nice. This is a rare Nevada Territory Van Horn District stock. The two mines most closely associated with this short-lived mining district were the Bullion and the Crescent. Stock certificates from both clearly state that the companies thought they were in Mono County, California. The district was next to the famous Esmeralda District and directly above the Montgomery district. The district ended any real importance in February of 1864 when the Bullion mine "gave a final test by sending a few tons of rocks to be crushed, which did not pay over one-half the expense of hauling. We always considered that district too risky for investments." [Mining & Scientific Press]. Includes a page of notes on the Van Horn district.
