Rare  U.S.  Navy Property Marked WWII Colt Woodsman Match Target Pistol
Manufactured in 1941, this scarce Colt Woodsman Target pistol was acquired by the U.S. Navy and is one of an estimated total of 3,962 pistols purchased by the U.S. military during the Second World War. The right side of the frame is marked "PROPERTY / U.S. NAVY / "G.H.D." and the reverse is marked "THE WOODSMAN" above the cross-cannon Ordnance final inspection mark. The pistol has the Colt commercial blue finish with a matte finish on top of the barrel, frame and slide. Equipped with a pinned blade front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The two line address/patent marking is on top of the barrel, the Match Target bulls-eye logo is on the left side of the barrel, and the caliber marking with the Rampant Colt is on the left side of the slide. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with an "e" assembler's mark above the Colt "VP" triangle proofmark and the number "23" is on the reverse. Fitted with extended checkered plastic grips with the Rampant Colt at the tops.

Condition: Very good. The pistol retains 80% original blue finish exhibiting thinning and blue loss evenly over the entire pistol, with the balance of the metal surfaces showing a smooth, light gray patina. There is some minor pitting on the right side of the frame directly under the property markings. The grips are excellent with a few mild handling marks. The checkering is crisp. A very scarce martially marked Colt Match Target Pistol.
