Rare U.S.N. Remington Model 1865 Navy Rolling Block Pistol
Manufactured from 1866 to 1870 with a total production of around 6,500, this was Remington's first Rolling Block Pistol and it is easily identified by its distinctive spur trigger. The Rolling Block action is generally considered as one of the strongest actions ever made. The top of the barrel is marked with the naval anchor, and the right side of the frame is marked with the inspector's markings "P / F.C.W.". The left side of the frame is marked "REMINGTON ILION N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT. MAY 30 NOV. 16TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866". The serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm. The front sight is the standard fixed pinched style and a notch in the top of the breech block serves as the rear sight. The barrel was blue, the hammer a fire blue and the remaining metal casehardened with a smooth trigger, checkered breech block handle and hammer spur, smooth walnut forearm and smooth one piece grip with a boxed "H.W." cartouche on the lower left side.
