Serial no. 16214, .45-70 caliber, 24-inch barrel with standard sights, single barrel band and marked near breech: Co. D. Blued finish. Case-hardened bolt action. Straight bolt toggle. Saddle ring. Varnished walnut stock, the left side marked: USDIA [U.S. Department of Indian Affairs]. Top of buttstock marked: 10. Steel buttplate. Made in 1882. One of 4396 manufactured.Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 30-40% finish mixed with brown age patina. Traces of silvered case-hardening on action. Wood with minor marks, dents and blemishes. Minor hairline crack behind safety. Scattered surface rust spotting present. Buttplate with pitting. Action good.
