Rare Two Digit Serialized Colt Factory Engraved Cloverleaf House Model Revolver with Relief Carved D
Very early production Colt Cloverleaf House Model Revolver manufactured in 1871. The revolver has the rarely encountered factory engraved scroll work on the sides and top of the frame and the two-piece fancy walnut grips have relief-carved scroll work. The brass frame has a silver plated finish and the barrel and four-shot, clover-leaf cylinder are blued. The hammer and trigger have a niter blue finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT'S HOUSE PISTOL/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in two lines reading toward the breech. The pistol butt is stamped with the serial number "39". The underside of the barrel is stamped with the number "38". The revolver has the high profile hammer with checkered spur found on early production pistols.

Fine. The revolver retains approximately 30% of the original blue and silver plated finish. The barrel has a smooth blue gray patina with traces of the period refinished bluel finish which is contained mostly in protected areas. The cylinder has a blue-brown patina with scattered patches of surface rust. The framer retains about 40% of the silver-plated finish in protected areas. Traces of the niter blue finish are visible of the hammer and trigger. The well-executed scroll engraving on the top strap, sides of the frame and backstrap is crisp. The two-piece, relief carved, burl walnut grips are in excellent condition with sharp edges on the carved scroll work and most of the high gloss varnish finish. The action is tight and functions fine. This is an attractive example of a rare, early production, factory engraved, Colt Cloverleaf Hose Model Revolver.
