German Forester's Cutlass with gold inlaid Damascus blade, gold plated hilt and ivory grips. The 17-inch blade has a single, unstopped fuller and Damascus finish. The obverse ricasso has a gold etched stags head with a swastika between the antlers. The blade has the gold inlaid inscription: "Seinm liben freund Alpers / falknerhof-Riddagshausen, den 3. Nob. 1937" followed by a facsimile of Herman Goring's signature. The reverse of the blade has a gold inlaid scene of a huntsman with hunting horn and hound below a stag's head and a hawk surrounded by floral sprays. The cutlass has a gold-plated brass guard with d-shaped knuckle bow, down-turned quillion, flared counter-guard and two-piece ivory grips. The hilt is profusely decorated with hunting images. The pommel is a detailed bear head. The base of the grip has a cast duck in flight and the down turned quillion is shape of a boar's hoof. The sides of the knuckle bow are decorated with cast leaves and berries. A gold plated, rampant lion with a swastika is attached to the obverse grip. The cutlass has a black leather scabbard with gold-plated brass tip and throat. The frog stud on the throat is shaped in the form of an oak leaf. This is a unique presentation cutlass with dedication from Herman Goring, chief of the Luftwaffe and second only to Hitler in the Nazi hierarchy. Goring was an avid hunter and a proponent of ceremonial edged weapons.
