Taxco Cross Pendant Necklace by Legendary Maestro Rafael Dominguez (1911 - 1980), This Exquisite Sterling Silver cross pendant measures 1.75'' x 1.25'' and is on a sterling chain measuring 23''L end to end, Crafted in the Etruscan style, it is hallmarked ''Hecho en Mexico Cuernavaca'' in a circle with ''R.D.'' and ''0.925'' inside the circle and ''Eagle 17'' assay mark. Deep rich patina throughout. FYI: ''Rafael Dominguez born 1911 and died 1980 married Juana who was another Maestro Silversmith and together they owned Casa Dominguez Silver and Arts Studio. Rafael was exclusively issued the Eagle 108 assay mark and Rafael was also issued Eagle 12 and Eagle 17 assay marks. Rafael is one of the few early artists known to have apprenticed under the Master Craftsman William Spratling. Rafael Dominguez's pieces are rare and necklaces by him are exceedingly rare. He was a talented pupil of William Spratling (''The Father of Mexican Silver'') during Spratling's years in Taxco, Mexico. In addition to learning silversmithing skills from his father, Dominguez was also taught by master silversmiths, Mondragon and Navarrette. With his wife, Juana, Rafael opened his own Taxco workshop called, Casa Dominguez in 1943 where they sold,''.pleasing designs in jewelry of heavy silver.'' 14.56g in total wt.
