Rare Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe Take-Down Rifle in 50 Express

This is an exceptional example of a deluxe special order Winchester Model 1886 takedown rifle as manufactured in late 1921, almost at the end of the standard production range for these big rifles. This rifle is somewhat unusual in that it only has a few special order features, which is rare in itself, and are: (1) take down barrel/receiver and, (2) a shotgun style butt stock with shotgun style hard rubber buttplate with the circular Winchester logo in the center. The rear sight is filled with a blank plate and it is fitted with a ivory tipped bead front sight and a late production, unmarked tang mount peep sight with the long knurled staff and of course the "50 Express" caliber. The unusual aspects of this rifle is that with these special order features the walnut stock and forend are both plain, non-figured walnut. The rifle has an all blued finish to include the hammer and cocking lever. The octagon barrel is stamped in two-lines: "MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" with the caliber markings of "50 EX." in front of the receiver. Again this is an unusual caliber for such a late production rifle since they had already introduced the new smokeless powder cartridges. The lower rear receiver tang is serial numbered, "158564".

Very fine with 95% of the original blue finish with wear/blue loss on the underside and top receiver ring of the receiver where it has been carried, and some light blue wear on the sides of the nosecap and magazine tube where it was rotated for takedown. The stock is very fine plus with 95% of the original Winchester factory varnish showing minor handling marks with the forend having 85% varnish showing numerous small pressure dents/scratches on the sides. A very nice looking all original late production Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle in the "Big 50 Express" cartridge.
