According to a letter from Richard M. Pelton, President/ CEO, U.S. Repeating Arms Co, dated May 23, 1986 (copy included), this cased set was part of a 45 gun set produced by the Model 21 Custom Shop in New Haven, Connecticut. These 45 constitute the only sets in this style produced under the Winchester name. Each barrel group shows a wedge of engraving on each side of the chamber, scrollwork on the mounting hardware and a pigeon on the tube housing, with bead sights on the vent rib. "Y" series action with jeweled bolt and follower, scroll engraving and game scenes. The left side has a large field scene with two gold bird dog inlays and a flying grouse inlay. The right side has four flying duck gold inlays. Triple X fancy American black walnut with extended fancy carved forearms, extensive hand carved checkering, steel grip cap and Winchester marked buttplate. The barrels are: 1) 26" vent rib with 2-3/4" chamber, improved cylinder choke, 2) 28" long with modified choke and 3) 30" long with full choke. Length of pull is just shy of 14 inches. The set comes in a walnut case with a French cut maroon wool interior.
