Manufactured in 1871, the first year of production, this is an example of a rare short barrel (1 1/2 inch) version of the "Cloverleaf" revolver. The left barrel flat is marked "COLT" and is the only marking on the short barrel variations, and the serial number is on the butt. The ejector rod is mounted in the cylinder pin and extends through a lug on the bottom of the barrel to the muzzle. Blue barrel and cylinder, niter blue hammer and silver plated brass frame. Fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips.

Fine, with 50% of the original blue finish remaining with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina. The frame retains 90% plus original silver plating, some of which is darkening with age. The hammer retains 80% original niter blue. The exposed brass has an aged patina. The grips are very fine with 85% original varnish remaining, showing some high point wear, and a few minor dings and scuffs. The action is excellent.
